A few more photos of the camping trip to Crescent Beach before the Fourth of July. Above is our "set the camera on a slimy rock, set the timer, and run" photo from "the Cove". The photo is very dark but gives nice perspective of the setting.
Here's the inside of our spacious and well accommodated tent. If only the weather had been better. But, hey, at least we know the tent stands up to wind and rain and tired boys can sleep through a hurricane.
This is the path to the Cove. It was steep and rocky. Our backs were tired from holding the hands of short people on such technical trails. But as the first picture shows, it was well worth it.
When we weren't hiking we were hitting our private beach. It was pretty nice on Sunday when the sun peeked out a bit to look across the creek to the public beach and wave at the 75 folks over there. We had a little more than 1/2 mile of sand beach we were sharing with four other people...We even had the privacy to build ourselves a super sweet lean-to of driftwood to protect us from scurvy pirates!
One last trip to Salt Creek to play in the tidal bore and then we headed for home (after a battery jump from the kind campground attendant- note to self: keep the hatch shut a bit more next time).
But never fear, on the Olympic Peninsula we are never far from water! Only one week later we were on a bike trip to the Elwha River. Simon rode the 9 mile round trip with us and we had some time to rest and play at the river and the fish hatchery. These next two pictures I took from the bridge several feet above the river.
See you all soon.
