Sunday, August 26

This weekend it seems the focus was on the the boys of summer, well, except for a brief moment as you will soon see. The ridge was beckoning with late summer sun on Saturday and like every other outdoor soul in Port Angeles we headed up. Just look at the view and then check out how full the parking lot was.

The boys even let us take a couple smiling photos of them in their new school fleece before shedding them in the sunshine for a hike.

Vancouver Island was glowing in the far distance and we checked out a new overlook we had yet to visit. As you can see we were successful: no pavement and no other tourists.

Then the boys humored Katie and I with a quick stop at Harbinger for a wine tasting. They gained the notice of another lady having a tasting. Katie and I were busy searching through a bin of our favorite local artist's signed prints and a grandma looking lady approached and said "Excuse me, are those your two boys over there?"  Katie and I realized we hadn't checked on them in a few moments and both promptly said "Nope, not ours." Not really. After quickly checking their behavior we said "yes" and she promptly said they had seen a fair share of out of control brats around the peninsula this weekend and ours were the first well behaved ones.  I quickly thanked her knowing that the only reason they hadn't ripped the room apart was because they were thoroughly worn out from a busy day. But that is a part of parenting isn't it? We celebrated the compliment with a chocolate bar for the boys and a new piece of art for our wall...

Today we washed our cars, walked Duckwater to look for frogs, and watched a movie with fresh blackberry scones. Exciting stuff- Right? The boys really enjoyed A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Not really. The thought it was pretty scary.

Not really. Puss in Boots held their interest so I could finish a Dirk Pitt novel in peace.

But back to Duckwater...

There were no frogs today but Finn mightily greeted the ducks swimming in the cattails.
