Alas the days grow shorter and the rains mist over our sunshine state of mind.  The Mad Dogs are down to their final week of soccer.

The final remnants of garden are brought into the house. We had a good year for gardening. It seems like we had bushels of peas, beans, and greens early. We had summer corn and broccoli. We had carrots  and radishes for months on end and we have enjoyed leaving baseball bat sized zucchini on our neighbors' porches after dark. The berries lasted from May to last week. Tonight we brought in one more of the zukes, 8 ears of decorative popcorn, zillions of almost ripe tomatoes, four baby eggplants, 10 peppers, 7 winter squash, and one pumpkin with one more on its way. We just didn't want things to rot and burst in our forecast deluge. Its sad to say goodbye to the overgrown beds- but they treated us well this year.

Tomorrow we're off to see King Tut (perhaps not in the flesh- but his mortuary relics, anyway). Since its Halloween month I think the boys are convinced it will be like Christmas visits with Santa. I'm not certain but I think they picture having to sit on the lap of the undead king and tell him what they are going to be dressed up to as for tricks and treats. I hope they aren't too disappointed...
