Saturday turned into Castle Day! The boys "needed" some castles suitable for their birthday knights to we began construction. They guided the superstructures but aren't quite capable (trustworthy?) with knives and sharp scissors. Then we mixed some gray paint and off they went. Two baths each, an attempt to Jackson Pollack the basement, and the castles were complete in their day-glo glory...
This morning we checked the weather, cleaned up and headed to Spokane to visit Santa. We made it to the top of the Coulee before the temperature dropped 5 degrees to just below freezing and the fog set in so thick we couldn't see more than three dashed stripes ahead of us on the highway. We white knuckled it to Wilbur afraid to even turn around in the fog. The weather hazard report- issued five minutes after we left the house- said freezing fog and dangerous roads to Spokane (as compared to a balmy 45 degrees and showers 1/2 an hour before we left...). We drove back on roads that had iced over in 20 minutes. I stopped at the grocery store for some supplies. We had brunch and then and we decorated Gingerbread men and Sugar mutants. Wasn't quite the same as Santa and Burgers and Fries for lunch but it had to work as a replacement. Curse you weather! Now it intends to get bitterly cold for the fist time in a couple years here this week. Nice.
Overall it was a very nice four day break for us. We had a good visit with the Beery grandparents. The house is festive. Our bellies are as full as our souls. Now we skate into a very busy December of work, volunteering, and meetings.
